The WIOA Program replaces the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, retains and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, the Wagner-Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Goals:
- Increase access to education, training, and employment-particularly for people with barriers to employment.
- Create a comprehensive, high-quality workforce development system by aligning workforce investment, education, and economic development.
- Improve the quality and labor market relevance of workforce investment, education, and economic development efforts,
- Promote improvement in the structure and delivery of services
- Increase the prosperity of workers and employers.
- Reduce welfare dependency, increase economic self-sufficiency, meet employer needs, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the nation
Services Provided:
- Career Services: Services that would assist individuals in obtaining a job. (Job Readiness, Job Search, Labor Market Information, Basic skills assessment, Filling out applications, Career assessment, Career counseling & planning, Job Center of WI registration, Barrier Screening)
- Educational & Training Services: services that are provided to equip individuals who have difficulties obtaining a job or entering the workforce despite being active in career services. They also help individuals to retain employment. (GED, college & vocational courses, work experience/job placement, occupational skills training)
